How do I order a cake?

Ordering in-person or by telephone are the easiest and quickest ways to place an order. All options can be refined in minutes without the need to go back and forth via Whatsapp or other social media channels which can be difficult when we’re in the middle of decorating cakes.

I've seen a cake I like, can you copy it for me?

We’re happy for you to share images of cake designs that you’ve liked elsewhere, however while that informs us of the style of cake you’d like, it would do a disservice to the creative talents of our bakers to ask them to make replica cakes. We always try our utmost to deliver on your vision though respectfully request enough latitude to do so with the Heron’s Nest treatment.

How do I even cut a cake?

Can I have a cake in fondant or sugarpaste icing?

We decorate our cakes with buttercream and/or ganache. Whlle we can hand-make cake-topping elements from fondant/sugarpaste, we do not use sugarpaste or fondant to cover them in their entirety as this is not our style. We find that not only it does it add to the cost, both in terms of raw materials and time, it’s also wasteful as no-one wants to eat those pieces which are ultimately lifted off and what is left is a fairly plain looking sponge cake underneath.

How do I get the cake home intact?

We advise that you transport your cake in the foot-well of you car or in the boot. There is no need to bring someone with you to collect the cake to hold it while in the car as the instinct at a sudden braking will be to clutch it tight and probably spoil the intricate finish of the cake in the process. Never also place a cake on a car seat as they are rarely level and carry a risk of sliding off into the foot-wells.
